a photo project by Amanda Mollindo
Check out my new photo project, HOT PICS.
Whereas the female form is often used as a sexual object, particularly on the web, HOT PICS is about women representing themselves and subverting the notion of the “hotness”. I’ve asked my female friends and peers to “look hot”, allowing them to interpret that however they see fit, and through collaboration, we make images in a space they are comfortable with to create photographs that questions female representation, sexuality, and self-possession. It also functions as a satire of femininity as it is interpreted by stereotypical, heteronormative, masculine ideals. Through image processing, aesthetic choices, and decisions on the presentation of this work, I reference the visual culture of the online communities that so often reduce women to objects of lust and desire.
